We have wanted to visit Gonzalez for decades. WHY did we wait so long!?!? What a wonderful community, with a heroic heritage! Texas wouldn't have become the amazing Republic, and the proud, tenacious State that it is, without the selfless pioneers that gave everything they had, including their lives, to the dream of Freedom! The Museum and historic sites throughout the area bring the memory of those events to life. From the first shot of the "Come and Take It" cannon, to the volunteers riding to their deaths in defense of the Alamo, to the last shots fired by Gonzalez men at San Jacinto, Texas will forever be grateful to these HEROES!!!

We really enjoyed our stop at the museum, chamber, farm stores, and battlefield historical marker. Thank you Gary at the museum for your knowledge and guidance to go to the chamber. Thank you Brad and staff for your conversation and hospitality. We would highly recommend a stop in this historic community.

A small museum but plenty of interesting artifacts including the ‘come and take it’ cannon. A must see for anyone interested in Texas history.
