  DO NOT use this moving company. My parents used O'Brien's to move them this week. When they opened their 55" TV today, they found it had been damaged in the move. When they called O'Brien's, they were told O'Brien's would give them $0.60 per pound for the damage. In other words, they'd pay about $20 for damaging a TV that is now not usable, and if we wanted more compensation, we should have bought more insurance. This is not acceptable. Save your money and find movers who actually care about customer service. That is not O'Brien's. Update: In relation to their response below, please note a few concerning items: 1. They call this a “large move.” It was a 2,000 sq. ft. townhome. 2. They pride themselves that this was the “first time” in three moves for my family that they damaged something severely. Apparently those are considered good odds and I should be thankful that it took hours on the phone and a hand written letter from my senior citizen mother to the HQ for anyone to respond? 3. They blame the customer for not buying the insurance and justify the damage and hassle because of it. Is the suggestion that we can’t rely on the solid experience we’d had from our previous two moves with O’Brien’s, so we should add insurance? Sounds like the quality you can expect from this company varies widely enough that insurance is necessary. Lesson learned all!

  Lauren: You mentioned in a letter that your parents have moved several times, including the last 2 times with O’Brien’s and this is the first time any item was damaged, which we apologize for. This was a large move, and unfortunately on occasion an item can be damaged. The issue is entirely based on “valuation”, or insurance. You don’t purchase more; you either purchase insurance valuation or choose not to. Insurance valuation is very low in overall price, and usually comes with either a $250 or $500 deductible. Since no insurance valuation was purchased, there is no claim to submit to our insurance company. If no insurance valuation is purchased, any damaged item is paid based on the weight of the item times 60 cents per pound (federal and state regulations), as was explained by the salesperson and also in the contract. Despite that fact, as a good will gesture we did give your parents an additional several hundred dollars over the 60 cents per pound for the damaged item.

  Very pleased with the long distance moving service from O’Briens. Their team of 4 people wrapped, packed and loaded everything from our home swiftly and carefully, all the while ensuring good organized placement on their truck for ease of unloading. They brought the boxes, packing materials and all the equipment that could possibly be needed to complete the job. I appreciate that their team was mindful of our neighbors when they parked their truck and shoes professionalism at each step. Unpacking was equally swift and trouble free, done by the same crew. I moved at the busiest time of the year so at times it was difficult to reach the office by phone but they always called back within a couple of days with answers and options. Additionally, packing of special items (large mirror, exercise bike, tv etc) was outsourced to local packers who were quite efficient as well. I would recommend O Briens moving to friends and family without hesitation.

  This is our second time to ask O'Brien's to move our household goods. They have been consistently professional and trustworthy. This year all movers are on tight scheduling. We contacted them 6 weeks before the move but they couldn't schedule at the most desired date (have to get by with another date). Yet as the moving date got closer, we were surprised by their call. They managed to put us on the most desired date.
