I had my vehicle shipped as part of a government Permanent Change of Station. Because of the nature of the PCS, shipping was done through a series of contractors. The vehicle left Los Angeles, CA and arrived in Hilo, HI. Within one week of arrival I had diagnosed a broken power-steering pump, broken harmonic balancer, broken transfer case bearing, water in the front and rear differential, and significant bearing damage in the rear axle. I had the car serice 10 days prior to shipping, including and extensive drive train check. Everything was 100% operation and in good condition prior to shipping. I have letters from two mechanics in Hawaii attesting that the damage was most likely caused during shipping, either from standing water infiltrating into the axles and then a series of cascading problems as the drivetrain failed, or anecdotally someone doing some heavy four-wheeling and not knowing how to engage/disengage the system properly. Despite these letters and documentation they denied my insurance claim and said so sad, too bad. I am now at $4K in damages and incidentals. I have shipped this car to Hawaii twice before, both times out of pocket personally and directly through Pasha Hawaii ($900). Both times I had not had an incident. Under no circumstances would I ever use this company again, professionally or personally. I will do my most to impress on my federal employee colleagues the failure of this company in its responsibilities and suggest they ship their vehicle personally as an out of pocket expense. The best part of this is since this vehicle relocation was covered by work it is a taxable expense. Who knows how much they upcharge the government, so I get to pay for them to ship and break my vehicle.

The VA uses this company for relocating employees. They are basically a middle man that contracts with companies to move household goods and vehicles. Long story short my household goods were not all delivered at the same time but rather two weeks apart. Furthermore, my vehicle was damaged by a sub of a contractor that they hired. The contractor Advectus refused my claim. This is ridiculous because my car was inspected when it was picked up and noted no damage.on the drivers side bumper on my car. Flash forward and when the car was delivered to me the driver inspection at that time showed damage to the front drivers side bumper. It is very interesting that the pick up inspection and the delivery inspection do not match and Advectus has the audacity to deny my claim. The worst part is that RMW holds this government contract and has been of zero assistance and have allowed this to happen. They don’t deserve it and their performance should be re-evaluated. They are not doing a great job at managing anything.
Response from the owner
Joe, we are truly sorry and only you know how difficult it is to go through the difficulties you endured during your relocation. RMW does care a lot about everyone we move and when something like this happens we don’t feel good about it either and we do something about it. In your case, we received your information from the VA with very little lead-time during the peak of the moving season. This leaves very few options left and we did everything we could do to try and make everything line up for you. It had become very common for VA to do this to many of their employees with a lot of constraints they demanded, that would make it nearly impossible for any supplier to accommodate with any high degree of satisfaction. I stated we take action and we have. Since this occurred, RMW has served notice to the VA that we are terminating our agreement and no longer going to supply our services to them. We again do care about you and we apologize for difficulties you had to endure.
