Smooth Moves went above and beyond for us. They brought a kind, smart, respectful crew and lived up to their name. Moving is always stressful but they minimized the stress by being communicative through the entire process. The movers had the truck packed quickly and brought more than enough wrapping, blankets and straps for the furniture. They were equally quick with unloading. It's the only move we've ever experienced that had no breakage or damage. We'll be recommending this excellent company to our friends if they need moving.

We chose Smooth Moves Cville because of the excellent value we were quoted for and their reputation online. And we chose right! The moving crew was timely, very friendly, and efficient. They followed us from Charlottesville to DC without issues and unloaded our apartment efficiently and safely. There were no significant or unexpected damages to our furniture or belonging. All of our fragile items arrived in one piece. Finally, the quote provided was very accurate, and there was only a minor increase after the fact due to commute factors. Overall very satisfied with the experience. They work well with you to ensure a smooth move!

DO NOT HIRE SMOOTH MOVES. Absolutely fraudulent company. I am so disappointed because I booked this company based off the good reviews. I was quoted $215 flat rate for the first two hours of the move (with the condition that any additional time would be $95 an hour, billed on the half hour). I had everything packed, disassembled and ready to go for the movers when they got there, all they had to do was move the things to the truck. The movers arrived at 10:00am and left right around 12:00pm. I remember telling myself that everything was right on time and super happy that I was only going to be charged for the two hours. WRONG. When I got the bill two days later I was charged $285 (plus a $25 deposit) for a total of $310 with the extra charge being an additional hour. I called the merchant thinking there had to be some kind of mistake and they were no help. They actually were very rude and argued with me the entire time. Their explanation being that the movers had 'clocked out' at 12:21pm and that is why I was charged the extra amount. I know for a fact that the movers were gone before 12:12pm because that is when I left with the moving truck. Before leaving I spent 10-15 minutes tidying up the apartment and locking up. Therefore the movers left right after (I mean minutes) or right at 12:00pm. I also have a screenshot showing my location in the moving truck on highway 64 when the movers supposedly 'clocked' out at 12:21pm. Regardless, I still should not have been charged the extra hour. The merchant agreed to credit back 1/2 of the charge but REFUSED to give back the whole additional hour charge. Even though I have proof that their "clock out" system is fraudulent and they have no proof that they left after 12:00pm. Also when I asked the merchant what happens if the movers leave one minute over the two hour mark they responded that you get charged the whole extra half hour. I know moving is difficult but this is just bad business. The move itself went well and the movers did a good job with my stuff. I gave them a good tip and then was charged extra with absolutely no proof from the merchant. Very very disappointing. I would give zero stars if that was possible.
Response from the owner
I spoke with this customer directly about this issue. We were never provided any proof as stated. In fact, the screenshot or picture was never mentioned. Only that she thought the time was wrong. Our crews time stamp with an app plus text the supervisor cell phone to document time, which I informed the customer of. Additionally, I reminded this customer that I was on site during her move, I greeted her and we discussed her move, because the movers had what is called a long carry” - any distance over 20 feet- also she had not supplied the movers enough blankets to load properly. At one point the movers had to wait for her parents to bring more. In this situation, at this apartment complex, the parking is quite far from entryways. The movers had many stairs, more than one case, outside the home, and after that, well over 40 feet to walk to get to the truck. Once everything was loaded the movers then had to rearrange things before loading the last few items because the customer was unable to get more blankets from the store (customers moving out of town must supply their own) Thus, I myself, verified as well that the movers left at least 10 minutes after the hour. As most who have hired a moving company before know, billing is done in either 15, 30 or hourly increments. We bill in half hour increments, which was stated in her contract, and I reminded her of this. None of this is fraudulent or has anything even remotely close to fraud involved. When this customer asked about time being one or two minutes over I reminded her that it was more than just one or two minutes, and that according to the contract yes one or two minutes over legally gets billed in half hour increments, which again is industry standard. However, generally we don’t charge people if it’s only a few minutes over. But again this was not the case here. There were several things, as I stated, that caused her move to take as long as it did. Regardless, we care about customer satisfaction and we gave as much of a refund as possible. I am pleased that the customer reported honestly on her movers, and her move in general, going very well. Our guys are professional and proficient, as well as friendly and honest. There’s certainly a reason most of our reviews are positive. No matter which moving company you hire, remember to always read your quote details and service contract so you understand what to expect from your relocation services, and so you can be properly prepared. Best of luck to this young lady, regardless.
