I strongly recommend that you do NOT use Chipman Logistics Moving Company in Garden Grove, CA. Unfortunately, we hired them. After receiving a quote of $40,000, things started going downhill from the day they came to pack. They sent a crew of hardworking individuals but nobody spoke English, making it very difficult to coordinate the initial step in moving from our home of 30 years. While loading the truck they destroyed a ceiling, lamp fixture, (which I replaced) and broke the head off a large statue of a standing Buddha. After arriving at our new home, the first week of February 2021, many problems became apparent. There was damage to two antique marble urns, caine, chairs, antique serving trays and a large wood picture frame. The damage to items such as the picture frame was documented and photographed by a representative of a firm Chipman hired to crate fragile pieces when they unpacked it here in Lexington. Doors were removed from an antique dining room hutch in the L.A. but the piece of furniture was not reassembled in Lexington. When I asked the driver to attach the doors (which are the contractual requirements of the company) he simply sat them on the frame without hinges. Becky at Chipman said they would send someone to resolve the problem; I never heard from that individual. Unable to find the hinges, I had an antique restoration company make new ones. The driver told the company that hinges were never present; this was a flat-out lie. We had used the hutch for 30 years. Chipman offered me $148.20 as a settlement for all the damage but subsequently withdrew the offer because I did not respond within 30 days. Per our contract, I agreed to give Chipman cash or a cashier's check for the final $9000 after the move was complete. When I tried to give this to the driver, he said that I owed nothing but repeatedly suggested that I give it to him as a “tip” for his work. Finally, I clarified the matter by calling back to Los Angeles. A few weeks later I got another bill for the $9000 from Chipman. Whether they had not received or recorded that payment it was challenging to resolve this. While some damage is possible with a large move like this, carelessness is not acceptable. Multiple times boxes labeled “fragile” were stacked under other heavy items. The crew in L.A. put covers over hardwood floors during the move. At our new home they did not bother to do this causing damage to the wood floors in the lobby and main staircase which cost $9000 to repair. This claim was denied by Chipman because they apparently hired a “hauling” company for the move. This outfit, called Suddath, said they were not notified appropriately or soon enough, even though I showed the damage to the driver on the day the truck was unloaded. I have a letter from Becky at Chipman that said I had 9 months to file any claims; I was denied by Suddath 6 months after the move. Finally, I wish you good luck if you choose to deal with Chipman Moving. They obviously will not stand behind their work.

      Response from the owner

Thank you for providing feedback, Richard. We aim to deliver a premier moving experience, and it sounds like this wasn’t the case for you. Your claims settlement was based on your option of choosing released value for your items at the time you booked your shipment. The time limit to file a cargo damage claim has always been nine months from the date of delivery as stated in your Ready to Move brochure and Your Rights and Responsibilities when you Move booklet that is provided to every customer.

Called multiple times to get a quote on a $10k move. Chipman was extremely unorganized. Instead of setting up the appointment for me they gave me numbers to call ofr their quote specialist who was on vacation (they didn't realize that one of their sales people was on vacation) then a scheduler set up an actual appointment, confirmed twice and the person never showed. The worst customer service especially for such a high priced item. They are a representative for United Van Lines one of the big moving companies, but their customer service does not reflect a top rated, professional company.

We used Chipman Relocations/United for two out-of-state moves, both with a tight timeline and a tighter budget. One move was off-season (Jan) and one at the height of the busy season (July). This was about the 15th time I've been through having a household professionally moved, including local, out of state, and international moves. I've dealt good movers, terrible careless movers, and top notch movers. Chipman was right up there at the top. Our estimator, Bryan, was professional, on time, and very thorough, both times. Walked me through all our pricing/timing/insurance options, provided a number of cost-saving suggestions, and had great communication and follow-through both times. Becky, the shipping coordinator, was the same--professional, thorough, quick to respond to questions and timing issues, and kept us up to date on transit times and delivery times. Our drivers and the packing and delivery crews were quick, careful, and professional on both ends of the move. While 90% of the packing was PBO (Packed By Owner--me), they handled the huge inventory of boxes and packed some delicate things, and all the furniture for a 3 bedroom house, and did an outstanding job both times. On delivery, nothing was missing, and only 1 item suffered minor damage--a large outdoor wrought iron plant stand that had one arm bent slightly. Everything else arrived intact and in good condition. And exactly when we needed it, and when Becky said it would. I had multiple follow-up calls from the company for both moves, to assess the process and see if there were any issues, damaged or missing goods, and if we were satisfied with their service. We were and are very satisfied, and while we never want to move again, if we had to, we'd be happy to use Chipman/United for the move.
