This is the worst move I've ever endured. The owner, John Goldman, sent Walter, a man in his 70's, and a young woman (Walter's niece, I think). I clearly pointed out a section marked STORAGE, to be packed first as it was going to storage last. When I noticed the storage boxes being carried out with other items, I again indicated that they needed to be taken out first. Their ignoring my instructions resulted in these boxes being carried into my new apt. (by Walter's grandson who had replaced his niece) and needing to be carried back to the truck. They failed to remove and pack a glass globe from an antique lamp, which I had repeatedly told them needed to be handled as delicate), and before I could react, Walter's grandson carried the lamp in and the globe fell and shattered. An antique mirror and frame were damaged as well (also irreplaceable). These were the only items not perfectly packed by my neighbors due to my being somewhat ill. Worst of all for me, the drawers of my heavy desk were apparently emptied, and instead of my orderly files were refilled with all kinds of things tossed in like trash. It will take me weeks or months to find and re-file my papers. After 12 hours, on a move that should have taken no more than 6 or 7, boxes for storage were still in the truck (I have found several in my apt., most too heavy for me to lift). Walter told me the ones still in the truck would be taken to storage in the morning at no further charge, which was done. The next morning he rang my bell and was holding a bag that had been left out in the pouring rain overnight. When I called Mr. Goldman a few days later, he said his movers had been unavailable and he'd sent other people. He expressed surprise that I'd had trouble, commented that Walter's grandson was "a good mover" and offered $100 "from my own personal account" as a refund. I felt this was too little but for the time being I agreed; the money never arrived. Mr. Goldman has not returned calls or answered emails, one of which requested Walter's last name and his license to drive a commercial truck. I'm an 82 year old woman recovering from a bout of vertigo the day of the move, which made it hard for me to participate very actively. My neighbors who had packed my things were there at the beginning and were dismayed when these "movers" arrived; however, I had no choice but to move on that day. I am filing a complaint with the N.M. Public Regulation Commission against this man, whose company I chose because of several enthusiastic recommendations from a neighbor and an acquaintance, both of whom were shocked at what happened. As the "contract" which I insisted be in writing, and which was finally emailed to me, scrawled on a piece of paper, states, 2 men are listed for the move.

Absolute worst experience with ANY company. MOVERS NEVER SHOWED UP ON MOVING DAY! This review is lengthy, but I urge you to read it through. -Scheduling took roughly four days. The owner kept calling-not to give me the estimate and confirm availability-but to “see who the number in his call log on his phone belonged to” That should have been enough of a red flag for me. -The night before the move he called, once again, checking his call log on his phone. He asked who I was. I was dumbfounded. I stated my name and that he was to move us the next day from Santa Fe to Roswell and I asked what time the movers would arrive in the morning. He said we were on the schedule, but he didn’t have the schedule in front of him and he’d call me right back. Two hours went by and I called him back to ask again what time the movers would arrive. At that time, he told me he didn’t have any men to move us, but he’d figure it out. He (now I know) randomly threw out an arrival time of 10:30am. -Around 7am the owner called to say he had movers, but didn’t have a truck, but he’d figure it out. Around 10am he called to ask if we could postpone the move to the next day. I told him no and that I had scheduled this a month in advance and was confused on what the issue was. He once again, said he’d figure it out. My husband called around and found a truck that was the appropriate size for our house (27ft per the owner of Discount Movers). When my husband told the lady who would be coming to pick up the truck (Discount Movers) SHE REFUSED TO RENT THE TRUCK to Discount Movers. They had a truck available but would rather make no money than rent to this company. It is quite the statement about the owner’s reputation. Needless to say, movers didn’t show up on the scheduled moving day. I spent the night in a hotel in Roswell and my husband spent the night in a completely packed up house. -The next day two (very friendly!) movers showed up with a 16ft truck, which is absurd because even the owner stated we’d need a 27ft truck. Of course all of our items didn’t fit and once again the scramble to find a truck began. After a couple of hours & asking us if we could postpone for a THIRD day, the owner decided to use the company’s moving truck (Note: Tagged with graffiti so as to make a nice first impression with your new neighbors) THAT HE COULD HAVE USED IN THE FIRST PLACE, but didn’t want to because he said the engine overheats on long hauls. Three hours isn’t exactly a long haul. Both trucks left slightly before 1pm. -While the guys were unloading the trucks the owner called and stated that we would need to pay for the second truck and the gas for the second truck. WHY WOULD WE BE CHARGED FOR HIS INCOMPETENCE?! After my husband told him we were out money for hotel rooms, etc., and wanted to be compensated, he bellowed on the phone that he was out more money as well for the extra truck. So, his incompetence costs us both money and that makes us even. That’s quite the self-serving logic. The owner told my husband “in life-sometimes things happen” (such as hiring terrible moving companies). When my husband refused to pay that charge, the owner then went back to his original quote plus tax. That total included over 10% in taxes-which is not the current tax rate. My husband called him out on it and he eventually “corrected” the amount. - To recap: 1) Never showed up on the moving day with a month’s notice. 2) His solution was to make a three hour move into a three day process 3) Never apologized 4) Tried to charge us more for his mistake instead of discounting to make it right and then tried to rip us off.
