Be forewarned if you are tempted to use J&R Moving out of Elberton, GA. I chose J&R Moving Service out of Elberton, Georgia because of the high rating on HomeAdvisors. It was the worst choice possible. Beginning with a guy named Ben Johnson, Sales Manager, he refused to send anyone to our home to give us a quote and insisted on using our online listing to approximate cubic feet. We paid for a full pack but chose to pack books and assorted items, approximately 100 boxes. There was no adjustment to that charge. Reginald Fortson and his sons arrived at noon both days. When I asked him why they came so late, Fortson told me he needed his sleep. The J&R site claims not to use contract workers. Not true, the delivery driver was from a different company. Fortson brought the driver in to help pack. The driver communicated his displeasure to us as he didn't feel it was his job to pack. Fortson asked if I had paid for a full pack, which indicates there wasn’t any communication between Johnson and Fortson). At the end of packing, the J&R packer, Fortson, claimed we used more cubic feet than estimated (no surprise to us) and said the price had increased $900. He wanted 70% of the balance, instead of the 50% Ben Johnson stated would be required. I found it strange Fortson asked for the check be made out to him rather than J&R. Enroute to Indiana from Georgia, I received a phone call from the delivery driver’s dispatcher claiming that Fortson had made yet another mistake in cubic feet, and the price had increased again. In the end, this move was $2050 over the original estimate. If you do not pay, you do not get your furniture. The delivery driver arrived at 6P the next day and had no helpers, as promised. He came back the next day, again with no helpers. I and my husband, both in our late 70's, worked with him from 9:30a until 7:30p, carrying boxes, taking off blankets, tape. As we unpacked, the ineptness and total lack of regard for our belongings was revealed. Broken glassware, tape used on fine furniture without protection, missing bolts and screws to put furniture together, and clothes that were supposed to be packed in wardrobe boxes were thrown in with hangers at the bottom of the boxes. Worst of all was a broken screen on our one-year old 65” Sony Smart television. To add insult to injury, the packers missed a coat closet with all our winter gear including all the bedding and blankets from the guest bedroom. It took six weeks for them to have those contents delivered. Upon receipt of these last three boxes, we found that a family heirloom (Civil War sword), a radio, and several pair of expensive Merrell, Teva, and Born sandals were not among our possessions. J&R did not return phone calls during this fiasco, but they did send us an initial check for $500 with the caveat that I remove this basic review on HomeAdvisor. I have followed that request, but I feel compelled to warn other potential customers about this company. It has been one of the worst experiences of our lives. I would call the Better Business Bureau in Elberton, GA, but I have discovered they are not a member, which is not surprising to me.

Do not hire this moving service. J & R Moving Service is the most unprofessional moving company we have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They showed up 3 hrs late to load the truck for our move from SC to AL and that was a disaster, we weren't sure they had ever loaded a truck before! It took 5 men 8 hrs. to load the truck and the last item they tried to load was my husband's ladder and they told him they couldn't get it on the truck and we couldn't put it in our car, so we had to leave it! This company gave us a flat rate moving price and said there would be no hidden fees or up charges. However, when they arrived on moving day they started saying they had to box things that weren't in boxes. The sixth man walked around with a clip board itemizing the boxes they packed and as it turned out nothing they packed survived the move. The contents of the boxes I packed myself were in tact and I'm not a professional mover! They dropped a mirror I had secured with cardboard on the lamenent floor, broke the mirror and scratched the floor. They forced an antique Bombay chest into a box rather than wrap it in blankets and shrink wrap so my chest had scratches all over it. The additional box/packing charges came to $350 more than the price stated and then they tried to charge us another $250 because they said my treadmill was too heavy. The showed up 4 hrs late the next day to unload the truck and that was a disaster with broken items everywhere on the driveway. I'm writing this review in hopes that I can help others to not have a move from hell like we did. Run...Save yourselves!!!

STAY AWAY! All our belongings were ruined (cracked, scratched, broken) or missing upon delivery. I had the worst moving experience ever with J&R Moving Services. I have moved cross country multiple times for school and work, and I have never experienced such horrible customer service. On move in day (7/6/20), in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, a driver and three other workers show up without masks, gloves, or hand sanitizer (despite an email from management stating that all workers would have these precautions). Immediately, they stated that there will be an extra charge because of the elevator and greater than 75 foot distance from the truck to apartment door (this was not mentioned in the estimate provided over the phone when I made the reservation). They unsystematically wrapped our furniture with dirty blankets, and got everything in the truck in less than 1 hour. They stated that payment can only be made via Zelle, Venmo, cash, or check, but not credit card (despite it being stated on the initial estimate that credit card would be accepted). They said the reason was because they had "been scammed" in the past (ironically, they are the ones doing the scamming). When our truck arrived with our belongings, the driver (not the same as the initial driver) asked me to come down to see the furniture in the truck before he moved them out of the truck. I was surprised to find that every single piece of furniture was damaged or ruined in some way. The office desks were cracked and scratched in multiple places, the chair legs were broken, the dining room table legs was damaged, the mattress had completely lost its shape (there was no cover on it at all and it was completely dirty after sitting in the truck for 10 days), the box spring had holes in it, and the headboard had many scratches on it as well (only half covered with blankets). On initial inspection, we noticed that they lost / stole our bookshelf and dining room chair. Moreover, many boxes that my wife and I packed had been visibly opened and then poorly closed again. When we started unpacking our belongings, we realized that some of our things had been stolen from the boxes (three cologne bottles and an external hard-drive that contains our wedding video). After contacting the owner multiple times, he said the best he could do is to expedite the claims process for us. He said the best he could do is to give us $700 (about 1/5 the cost of all damages, and 1/5 the cost of the move itself). However, after submitting a settlement of agreement (after receiving my initial deposit back via credit cards claims department), they declined to process the $700 refund. Please stay away from this company at all costs; it was not worth the “savings”. Please see attached pictures for damages and for pictures of the two thieves who were responsible for everything. Their names are Guzi Ohad and Lior Cohen.
