We had two very heavy professional style stoves that needed to be moved – one from upstairs to go downstairs and vice versa. We live in a split level house with a very narrow stairwell connecting the two floors. The Jimmy Burgoff team came right on time and got the job done quickly and efficiently. They were polite and I was always confident that my equipment and the rest of my house was going to be protected and cared for. I will definitely use them again for future moving needs. They also gave me an appointment very quickly after I inquired.

So, we hired the company to get a piano moved in our apartment At first, we want to say that the two persons that did the move were AMAZING and went above and beyond to get the job done. However, we have serious concerns about Jimmy, the person we talked to on the phone, hence the low score and why we are not hiring them ever again. We spoke with Jimmy on the phone to make the arrangements, he asked for some photos, we sent them, he said it is a 3-person job, but “he has two very strong guys that can get the job done, and if the piano can’t go around the corner, they will deadlift it”. These are his words exactly. I said ok good, and that I can lend a hand if need be. The two movers came, had some hard time moving the piano around the corner, but eventually they made it, but did some damage to the wall next to the stairs. Throughout, they kept complaining this was a 3-person job and they do not understand why Jimmy sent only two. When they left, I called Jimmy to let him know I have to inform the management company of the building about the damage, and before I even get to that part, he backfired (and always interrupting) saying he told us it is a 3-person job, so he sent out two and I would be the 3rd as we allegedly agreed, while he had clearly decided two can do it, before I even offer a hand, which is at least dishonest. On top of that, Jimmy ended the phone call saying, “your piano is the last thing we would damage”, which if you think about it is not such a strong selling point for a moving company. Please do not give Jimmy your business. This company is not worth your money. We do NOT recommend this company and will NEVER use them again.
Response from the owner
Obvious miscommunication here. I was under the impression the customer offered to help us make one of the turns on the staircase (a small spinet piano). Apparently what occurred is he was not willing to help. That is why I sent two piano movers instead of three. Nevertheless, we completed the move successfully with minimal damage to one wall at the skinniest part of the landing where we had to turn. The customer gave my information to the building manager, and I have not heard a peep from the property owner. I have literally done this exact type of move hundreds of times, and I could tell from the photos sent to me exactly where we would have difficulty. This customers' quote from me is accurate; " The piano is the last thing that would get damaged." The customer wasn't stupid in the slightest, simply his understanding of subtleties of the English language shows here. What I was trying to convey was that the piano would be so well protected (which it was, with quilted blankets, a piano board and ratchet straps) that actual damage to the instrument itself, would be quite hard to do! My main concern was the walls, which were paper thin and visually obvious that they had been patched before in the exact same spot, and the wooden stairs. The piano was well protected, no matter what happened on the staircase. So, once again, because I tried to save the customer a few bucks because a third person was needed for what should have been five minutes out of the entire two hour job, I'm the bad guy. Apparently it's a universal axiom, and that is that often times, the one you try to go the extra mile for, is the one that messes with you. Bottom line: The piano was delivered at the appointed time, without any damage whatsoever to it. Paid in full by the customer at the agreed upon price, three minor scrapes to a wall at one of the staircase turns, that the landlord decided was of no consequence, and miscommunication by both myself and customer of words I chose to communicate with, of my very pointed concern of where something might go wrong because of the difficulty involved. I would hope that once the customer reads my reply, he will remove this content, as in the end, it is basically much a do about nothing. I'm old school, I never ask for my customers for a review, therefore one negative review pasted up against all the other five star reviews could be economically damaging way beyond the intent of the person who complained here. Respectfully submitted, Jimmy Burgoff, (owner/operator - since 1978), with now just over 11,000 pianos of all types successfully moved. Over 70% of my customers are repeat clients! I'm a local small business that has no ambition to be a big moving company. We always do quality work with pride in the fruits of our labor.

Jimmy Burgoff's movers were smart, high-energy pros, from planning through sign off. Getting an estimate was easy; they asked some for key info, not a ton of detail. They strategized the move when they arrived and worked very efficiently. It was quickly clear that they could be trusted with fragile things and wouldn't scratch walls or floors. In fact, they pointed out how an antique could be stabilized and did it. And they came in under estimate.

We all have pride in what we do. We are "old school"! G_d forbid you should hire a moving company that actually knows what they're doing! Thank you for the kind words. Jimmy Burgoff - owner/operator
