      We had to use Merit Moving for our cross country relocation to California. The office staff was polite, accommodating and usually timely with responses in the earlier phases of the move. The actual move crews were extremely disappointing on both ends. The packers shoved things in places they didn’t belong, wrapped things like tiny diamond stud earrings in gigantic 3 foot pieces of crumpled papers so they easily were thrown away not knowing it was something fragile. We had to label our items to be delivered to our temporary (corporate housing) location or to our final destination. Upon arrival at our temporary destination where our family of 5 would be living for 3 months, we found that many of our items that we needed and labeled for temporary housing did not arrive. They told us they’d arrive at the final destination instead. Our new, expensive large Yeti coolers were some of those items and they did not arrive at our final destination either. I filled out a claim form and was told that since I didn’t note them as missing on the day of delivery, they could not be replaced or reimbursed. These items might not have been marked as they were large basement items. We had to check off boxes for little inventory stickers the entire delivery day. So be prepared if you have small children because if you miss checking some boxes or items that they bring into the house, they’ll tell you to put an X on it because “they already brought them in”, and you’ll be left responsible when they aren’t actually received. When I was told they would not replace them, that was the final straw for us. I wrote an honest review online to warn others of our experience. I received a call from Shellie telling me that she would split the cost of the replacements with our relocation company… seemed fair, and we were so grateful. But then she said “we will do this but we ask that you delete your review online”. That’s not how reviews work- you don’t pay someone to delete a review- you should be working in an honest ethical way and earning the positive reviews. You own up to your reviews and take the good with the bad and improve when you get negative feedback. So, knowing that this is their practice, please take all the 5 star reviews that you see listed with a grain of salt. That just means that the others who had bad experiences were likely paid to delete their review. Several expensive items were damaged including a leather sofa..when I showed them the broken part they forcefully pushed ALL of the sofa headrests back and forth (even though I said please don’t) & ended up breaking 2 more of the headrests. This crew is so far from first class w/how they handle a family’s valuable goods. A very sentimental glass item that was a gift was broken in the move and they refused to replace it because we didn’t claim it on the day of delivery… but they had buried it in piles in our garage and we were NOT going to dig through the garage for quite a while, so we missed our opportunity. It was like they intentionally hid it. After all of these various findings and refusals to reimburse, we knew we would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Then, recently I was playing with my daughter on the floor of our dining room and I noticed a big crack line along our huge heavy china cabinet. Only because I was sitting close to it on the floor did I notice it and take a much closer look. It was a significant piece of the side that had been broken off and GLUED back onto the side of our furniture to make it appear intact. We couldn’t believe it!! So now not only had they broken something else but they had attempted to cover it up and not tell us. Of course I didn’t notice because they had deceived us and made it look intact. I would never want to see anyone have to experience such poor unethical service when it comes to their family’s treasured items. That Ethan Allen set should have been handed down to our daughter some day. We are just so upset about all of it and will definitely not recommend nor will we use them when we move back to the east coast.

      I worked with Brandy W. as the coordinator on my cross-country move via United Van Lines. Brandy was fantastic, she was able to provide me with updates and relay my concerns to the contractor movers. Throughout the whole move process, I only had one contact at Merit, which was very impressive given how many people are moving to and from Los Angeles. I would thoroughly recommend Merit - and by extension United Van Lines - to anybody with a big move. Their business is honest and can be relied upon.

      We recently moved from Tujunga to upstate New York and worked with Merit Moving Systems. The whole process went super smoothly and we couldn't be happier. I want to call out Brandy specifically, who was our Move Coordinator. She kept us up-to-date throughout the process and promptly refunded us when it turned out we needed less containers than originally estimated. She was always available to answer any questions, kind, and a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. Also the loading and unloading crews did a fantastic job; they were courteous, on-time, and followed COVID protocols. They also had great senses of humor which was appreciated in a stressful time. They handled all my belongings with care and everything arrived in great condition. These are reputable movers and I highly recommend this company. Thank you for the great service!
