I recently moved my elderly mother to two senior communities in a matter of just four months. For the first move, I used GR, family-based Scully Statewide Moving. Communication was limited and unprofessional. The movers told me when it was convenient for THEM to do the move. They weren't prepared to honor the CDC COVID restrictions for working in senior housing, and I had to provide the movers with, and remind them to wear, face masks, which they didn't wear properly. For the second move, I called Scully again because they were a known quantity. When I again explained the CDC, COVID protocols for working in assisted living settings, the owner indicated he couldn't guarantee that his workers could honor those requirements: "it's hard to wear a mask when you are going in and out of buildings".... (really?!) Again they told me when it was convenient for them to pack and to move my mom -- scheduling that would've resulted in packing her home one morning and not moving her stuff until the next morning. Where would she live for the day between packing and moving?! I decided to cancel the Scully reservation. When I did, the person I talked to on the phone wasn't even curious why I was cancelling. You'd think a service-based company would at least wonder why they lost a job, just in case their service could be improved. I'd never use Scully for such a delicate move with an elderly woman during a pandemic which has resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of elders over the last three years -- especially those living in communities. The Holland-based movers I ultimately hired were highly professional: on the phone, creating an estimate, and in person. They, were flexible, sensitive, and cost about 35% less than Scully.

I want to start with the good, communication, price, timely, friendly crew. If you have basic move, use Scully. But, if you have a big move, maybe Scully isn't for you. In the past, We have moved, packed, and stored our household cross country 4 times and used the national movers, United and Allied. We never had damage or breakage. I found with this move, You get what you pay for- we went with the middle of the road bid. Moving is stressful and I now wish I went with the higher bid to avoid the stress and frustration. We had Scully pack, move and store our house until our new build was completed. The job was big, I know what it takes to move a large house, pack takes more than 8 hours. We had items left unpacked and moved that way. The new Stainless refrigerator ended up with dents in the door and chipped paint on the bottom of the dressers from the unprotected dolly used, dirt smudges on the couches, I was stunned that the flat screen TV and wall art wasn't packed, just wrapped in moving blankets. Every single lamp shade came out of the box dented. On the plus side, nothing was broken. It is all on me for going with the lower bid. If you have basic move, use Scully. But if you have more, I suggest paying the extra with national movers.

If you want to have your things arrive at your new location don’t hire theses people.I realized after a couple of days that a box of books not a small box, was missing and no one at the company would accept responsibility. The worst of it was that the box included a Bible that belonged to my husband who had died. The owner actually accused my children of taking it. My kids are in their 50’s. The owner when I confronted him quipped that they probably were in the lost and found. Hahaha! We were still packing some things ourselves and the truck left. My daughter thankfully had a phone number and called them to come back because they hadn’t finished. It’s taken me awhile to think about everything that happened with this company and I in good conscience would never recommend them to do a move for anyone.
